George Guidall
Widely recognized as the world’s most prolific narrator of audiobooks, George Guidall (pronounced Gwi-dell) has recorded nearly 650 unabridged novels, bringing a consistent artistry to his readings that has delighted listeners for over 20 years. His narrations of everything from classics like Crime and Punishment and The Iliad to best sellers like Snow Falling on Cedars and Lilian Jackson Brauns Cat Who ... series have set a standard for excellence recognized throughout the audiobook industry. In 1999 Guidall received the coveted Audie Award—the industry equivalent of an Oscar—for best unabridged narration of a novel for his recording of John Irvings A Widow for One Year, an honor he captured again in 2000 for his rendition of Wally Lamb’s I Know This Much Is True.
In addition to his award-winning work as an audiobook narrator, Guidall has also enjoyed a forty-year career in the theatre, including starring roles on Broadway in such plays as Chapter Two, Cafe Crown, Alone Together, and Cold Storage. He has received an Obie award for best performance Off-Broadway, and has shared the stage at the New York Shakespeare Festival with Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, and Tracy Ullman. His early career featured a tour of Europe and the Near East with Helen Hayes in The Glass Menagerie, Miracle Worker, and The Skin of Our Teeth. His performances in regional theatres range from the classics of Shakespeare and Chekov to contemporary comedies. He has also appeared many times on major television shows, most recently as Judge Simmons on ABC’s daytime series One Life to Live, as well as on other popular series such as Law and Order, Spencer for Hire, and The Equalizer. His film credits include Malcom X, Tales from the Darkside, and Golden Gate.

BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ!!!
(Review of George Guidall narrating I Know This Much is True)
I have listened to many books on tape. I would have to say that this was the absolute best book that I have ever listened to. As long as this book was, I wished that it hadn’t ended. Wally Lamb is an incredible writer. I’ve also listed to She’s Come Undone and was equally impressed. I also enjoyed the narrative with the author at the end of the tape. It added something even more special to the book. - Reviewer from Long Island, New York
Should Be Required Reading
(Review of George Guidall narrating I Know This Much is True)
This is the best audio book I have ever listened to. It is a tale of love and loss, guilt and salvation, self-pity and ultimately redemption. It is an incredible story that I will never forget. George Guidall’s reading is absolutely flawless. - Reviewer from Virginia
Better Than the Movie
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Accidental Tourist)
The movie with William Hurt and Geena Davis didn’t do justice to Anne Tyler’s great story. If you have never read an Anne Tyler book, start with this one or Saint Maybe. She has a unique talent for combining pathos and humor. An excellent book. - Reviewer from Virginia
Don't Miss This One
(Review of George Guidall narrating Saint Maybe)
A wonderful book. Anne Tyler is a remarkable writer who leads you into her character’s lives with unique sensitivity and humor. And I am never disappointed in George Guidall’s narration--he is absolutely marvelous. - Reviewer from Virginia
All time family favorite

Outstanding Fiction
(Review of George Guidall narrating Gates of Fire)
When you finish this book, you will understand why our civilization has survived and flourished. If ancient history were taught like this, I would have majored in it!Pressfield combines scholarship with storytelling in such a way that you can’t leave it untli you’re finished. George Guidall’s narration is little short of perfect, catching nuances, personalities and Greek names just right. - Reviewer from

(Review of George Guidall narrating Hunting Badger)
Tony Hillerman has been a favorite over the years. His talent of describing the scenery and the feel of the Southwest has been extrodinary. I felt that this offering was somewhat weak in comparison to his earlier works. I’m not certain that it was a wise move to retire Joe Leaphorn. His entry into the stories now feels awkward and contrived. The personal lives of Joe and Jim have also become confusing. I wish Tony would emphasize the plot and the scene. - Reviewer from Utah
A must read for all parents of preteens and teens!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Get Out of My Life, But First Could You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall?)
Although this book is 10 years old, the message is timeless for parents. I now look at many things with different eyes. I loved it so much that I purchased the tapes. I have listened several times and learn something new each time. I have had the book for years but never finished. The reader adds humor to an often dry subject. - Reviewer from Cincinnati, OH
Same old magic...different book.
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Cat Who Robbed a Bank)
I’m not sure what I enjoy more, the exploits of Jim Qwilleran or the reading of George Guidall. After hearing this charming tale, complete with great background information on the enigmatic Mr. Q, it just leaves you wanting much, much more. - Reviewer from Massena, New York
A griping story
(Review of George Guidall narrating Numbered Account)
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The writing and narration are supurb. The author does a great job of giving you a visual of the story. He makes a very complicated plot very easy to follow and gives the reader a few suprises too. I enjoyed the different voices the narrator gave each character, while not making them seem terribly contrived. I recommend it. - Reviewer from Oregon, USA
George Guidall is marvelous!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Dune)
Having read this book before, I can attest to the fact that it is much easier to listen to. George Guidall is my favorite narrator and he has done it again in his wonderful narration of this complex story. The story flows wonderfully and I never once felt lost in strange terms or unfamiliar situations. I only wish that the rest of the Dune series was also on tape. - Reviewer from Minnesota

An excellent book for kids (and adults!)
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm)
The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm is a great story. It takes place in futuristic Zimbabwe and features three loveable, genetically mutated, somewhat-bumbling detectives with special powers, three children seeking an adventure, a cast of bad guys (hilarious and scary), and a blue monkey that talks. The mix of future technology and society (picture phones, praise singers, and mile-high buildings) blends beautifully with African mythology and classic coming of age themes.
I am twenty-one years old and I loved listening to this story. It is unlike any other book for children I have ever read. Sometimes it is laugh-out-loud funny, other times it is meaningful, as the main character reflects on his ancestors and spiritual beliefs. The technology and future world presented in the book is fascinating and seems real, not like space age science-fiction. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially young teenagers. I would definitely give this to a 13 year old boy, especially one who may be reluctant to read. (The main character is a young teenage boy.) Some content may not be good for children under 10. - Reviewer from Tennessee
Darwin Never Sounded So Good
(Review of George Guidall narrating Darwin’s Radio)
This is a fabulous tale with all the elements that will keep you in your chair with the tape rolling. The story is one that grabbed me and never let me go and I simply fell in love with the heroine. I found myself sitting in my car, unable to turn off the tape -hoping for the best and fearing for the worst. George Guidall does an outstanding job of bringing the story to life. This is a story with strong undercurrents about moral and political choices. It is one that should not be missed by anyone who enjoys a complex tale of intrigue and suspense. - Reviewer from Atlanta, GA

Riveting Story, Exceptional Narration
(Review of George Guidall narrating Absolute Power)
Very riveting story which holds you through the first 9 tapes, slows a bit through 10 & 11, with a very strong conclusion in tape 12. Highly recommend. - Reviewer from USA
Incredible.
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Face in the Frost)
Simply wonderful. This book is one of the best (if not THE best) I have ever read. It has comedy, action, suspense, all wrapped up in a fantasy world full of intrige. George Guidall is perfect for the job, giving each character exact emotions. Overall, if you haven’t rented it yet, rent it now! It is utterly fantastic! - Reviewer from Paso Robles, California
A Classic
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Accidental Tourist)
Guidall really brings the characters in this book to life. Tyler has a sublime sense of detail. Moving, hilarious at times, ultimately satisfying and redemptive. - Reviewer from Maryland, USA
An excellent book and narration
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Corrections)
This book is marvelous. The author has such insight into the personalities of the characters - so much so that we can all relate to them. Enid is marvelous and I’m amazed at the descriptions of the husband’s dementia. The kids are typical of young people striving in their own lives, trying too hard in most cases and sadly not attentive enough to aging parents. Of course, Guidall is very very good, as always. I have yet to not enjoy a book that he has narrated. As they say, he could read a telephone book and make it interesting. - Reviewer from Maryland
I'm Hooked
(Review of George Guidall narrating Kilo Class)
This is only the second book on tape I’ve listened to, but I have to say I’m hooked. I found myself sitting in the car for long periods of time even after arriving at my destination just to hear the story. Very well written and narrated. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I’ll be listening to many more in the future. - Reviewer from
Supreme Suspense!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Robert Ludlum’s The Cassandra Compact)
An incredible book with incredible narration. I listen on my way back and forth from work and found myself not being able to wait to go sit in traffic! - Reviewer from Chicago, IL
Good story, some science details poor - but good story.
(Review of George Guidall narrating Hidden Empire)
The story is engrossing with a lot of plot lines running at once, it left me wishing for more. Some of the real science details are a little messed up, but since we are after the story and not science facts from this book what is the real problem here. All in all I for one am looking forward to the next installment - I hope it is soon. - Reviewer from
INCREDIBLE NOVEL
(Review of George Guidall narrating Gates of Fire)
This book takes hold of the listener from the first page and doesn’t let go. An incredible insight into life as a greek and especially as a Spartan. The battle sequences are so detailed you can see the battle in your mind. This book should be a movie but George Guidall would have to be the narrator in it. His range and ability to become the character is unmatched by any other narrator. This book rates 10 stars. - Reviewer from Nashville, TN
Biography with style
(Review of George Guidall narrating Cheaper by the Dozen)
Cheaper by the dozen is a story of a family written by two of the children of that family. Its not just dry facts like you see in too many biographies, but its written and read in such a way to draw the reader in to the story and the characters themselves, as if it were a quality novel. I highly recommend this audiobook to whomever enjoys wholesome fun literature. - Reviewer from Midwest, United States
American Gods, Fantasy Classic
(Review of George Guidall narrating American Gods)
Few books fascinate and intrigue while enticing the listener to chuckle. Pure escapism and pure delight. Mr. Gaimans work is the embodiment of true originality. When combined with arguably the world’s foremost literary actor, the work becomes an inspiration. If you like fiction, George Guidall, or just a good yarn, youre gonna love this one! - Reviewer from
Most Excellent in all respects.
(Review of George Guidall narrating Typee)
Herman Melvilles proves himself a classic writer, and George Guidall does the great literary master perfectly with his superior narration. I first listened to this audiobook on a long road trip. It filled the entire journey with wonder. I thank both the author and the narrator for my safe and timely travels. - Reviewer from Georgia, USA
An entertaining way to learn the history of the crusades.
(Review of George Guidall narrating Baudolino)
I was initially concerned that Ecos prose and historic references would be above my simple college education but was pleasantly surprised to immediately be drawn into a world that was simulataneously barbaric and endearing. Baudolino was a joy to listen to. - Reviewer from New England, America
Gripping All The Way
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Cat Who Smelled a Rat)
I love this series! Each book is ever so addicting and this one did not let me down. George Guidall again does his wonderful voices of characters. It is fun, gripping, serious and at times you get in a chuckle or three. I am somewhat of a new listener and I believe I will eventually listen to every one of The Cat Who books that Lilian Jackson Braun writes. I hope she keeps them coming and I hope George Guidall reads every one of them! - Reviewer from Tucson, Arizona
Ive listened to it 30+ times
(Review of George Guidall narrating Johnny Tremain)
No thats not an error, I have listend to these 7 tapes well over thirty times, I lost count after 28. Johnny Tremain is my favorite fictional story. The reading by George Guidal (I think I spelled that wrong) is excellent, as always. Ive listened to several of his other recordings and found them all equally enjoyable. I would recomned this book-on-tape to anyone of any age, although boys from 10-16 will probably find it the most entertaining. Im now thinking of purchasing the tapes, as I have probably spent well more than the price of the tapes on late fees at the library. - Reviewer from Tacoma, Washington
Keep plugging - the book grows on you as you go along.
(Review of George Guidall narrating Crime and Punishment)
I actually read the first half and then got the CDs and finished the second half. There are parts of the book that seemed to drag on and on, but once you reach halfway through the book it begins to pick up speed. There is a lot of interesting stuff here, both in the philosophy and psychology of self-punishment. At first, I thought I might not finish the book, but in restrospect, Im glad that I did. The reader did a great job with the voices of different characters - especially the detective. - Reviewer from Fremont, Nebraska
Sobering Look at Nuclear Warfare
(Review of George Guidall narrating Hiroshima)
I was a little apprehensive about reading this, as I thought it might be very troubling. The book takes a little of the edge off (which is probably a good thing), but yet gives some horrific detail regarding the destruction of Hiroshima. I also liked the fact that the book followed the lives of the individuals through the years, which helped the book to end on a more hopeful note. The perspective of some of the survivors on whether the bomb should have been dropped was very surprising. This is definitely worth reading for many good reasons. - Reviewer from Fremont, Nebraska

Outstanding Alternative History of the Civil War!
(Review of George Guidall narrating How Few Remain)
Good alternative history always abides by the following rule: It could of actually gone that way. Example: Aliens give the confederates a submachine gun and they defeat the north. Thats not good alternative history! In this book, the British and French decide to side with the South, and thus break the Norths naval blockade. This results in the South being able to survive as an independent country. This could have happened, it didnt, but it could have. Thus, what result from a believe alternative is also believable. This is outstanding alternative history! I wish Recorded Books had recorded more than just the first four books in this series. - Reviewer from Alamogordo, NM
Clancy and Brown Watch Out!!!
(Review of George Guidall narrating ACID TEST)
For anyone who enjoys fast-paced techno thrillers with a military twist, this book REALLY delivers! Simply one of the most enjoyable books Ive had the pleasure to listen to in the past ten years. Highly recommended! - Reviewer from Los Angeles
Indeed, Truly Outstanding!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Good Earth)
This is one of the finest classics of our time and is always a pleasure to rediscover over the years -- George Guidalls smooth mellow narration is a pleasure to listen to! - Reviewer from At the Crossroads of the World -- Times Square, New York
Great Alternative History!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Great Wars: American Front)
This is a great alternative history continuation of the previous book in this series "How Few Remain." Its now 1914, the CSA is still a separate country from the USA. The USA is allied with Germany and Austria. The CSA is allied with France, the British, Japan. WW 1 breaks out with the above alliances, and is fought around the world, including on the North American continent. Loved it! - Reviewer from Alamogordo, NM
Love it!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Great War: Walk in Hell)
A brilliant alternative history continuation of the previous book: "American Front." WW1 rages around the world, including on the North American continent: the USA fights the Canadians British in the north, and the CSA in the south. There are naval battles in the pacific, the atlantic, and the rivers of north america. The war is mostly a stalemate, with tremendous loss of life on all sides. Just ordered the next Recorded Book in the series: "The Great War: Breakthroughs." Cant wait to get it! - Reviewer from Alamogordo, NM
Inarguably the Finest Work of Science Fiction Ever Written or Recorded
(Review of George Guidall narrating Dune)
The headline says it all. I first found this recorded book in the Pierce Country Public Library in 1995. I checked it out several times, and eventually bought the recording from Borders Books and Music in 2002. I have listened to it dozens of times.
Besides being a thoroughly enjoyable story with deep and likable characters, the novel deals in depth with no less than four major human and physical sciences: Politics, Economics, Ecology, and Religion.
Before writing Dune, author Frank Herbert researched his fields of study for a number of years, and the results of his efforts are shown in the quality of the work he produced. His metaphorical takes on "Arrakis" for "Iraq" and "the Spice" for "Oil" are readily perceived, but not so transparent as to be insulting.
There are a number of one-liners, proverbs, and anecdotal statements that have proven to be most valuable, and apart from the story, even beneficial to incorporate into ones life personally.
Narrator George Guidall does his usual outstanding job in this performance. No one could have done it better - a perfect match of author and narrator.
Highly recommended for any fan of Sci-fi, relgion, or philosophy. - Reviewer from Tampa Bay, Florida, for now..
Best Audiobook Ive ever heard!!!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Gates of Fire)
I wish all audiobooks could be this good! Both the writing and the narration are outstanding making for a thrilling yet educational experience into a time long past. Pressfields detail knowledge of ancient Sparta makes one wonder whether he actually lived there in a past life. - Reviewer from Overland Park, KS
An amazing history
(Review of George Guidall narrating Hear That Lonesome Whistle Blow)
I expected to enjoy this book, which I did, but it went far beyond that. I enjoyed learning about the development of railroads throughout the 18th century, and was particularly taken by quotes from people who rode the trains, and what their experiences were like, once tracks has crossed the continent.
But what amazed me was the vast extent of corruption involved--the Enron-like greed of robber barons, lying lobbyists, corrupt politicians, the theft of Indian lands and the cheating of immigrants, on and on and on. We never leaned this stuff in high school . . . .
This book is very well researched and written, and I highly recommend it. And George Guidall does his usual great job as reader. - Reviewer from Central Indiana
A Master Storyteller
(Review of George Guidall narrating American Gods)
Famous for (depending on whom you ask) his graphic novels, childrens books, or novels, Neil Gaiman has produced another wonderful work with American Gods, an epic picaresque that discovers America through the twin vehicles of the protagonist, Shadow, and the gods with whom he interacts (both those nearly forgotten and the fresh ones desperate not to be). While often classified as sci-fi/fantasy, the book really does transcend classification as a genre novel. Gaimans prose is well suited to an audio presentation, and George Guidall does an almost entirely delightful job of bringing the characters to life. My one complaint with the audio version of this novel has to do with Guidalls performance: while he supplies a rich range of voices for the male characters, all of his women seem to share the same simpering pseudo-falsetto. Overall, however, it was a very enjoyable way to experience one of my favorite books. - Reviewer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
Gilgamesh is best heard than read
(Review of George Guidall narrating Gilgamesh)
It was great to hear this story instead of reading it. It was obviously meant as an oral history.
The style has been well translated to match 21st century tastes without any obvious loss.
The essay at the end was very informative on the history of the story.
Well worth a 4 CD listen! - Reviewer from Boston
Fabulously engrossing
(Review of George Guidall narrating Mr. White’s Confession)
A study in contrasts, "Mr. Whites Confession" stretches the readers mind and lingers in it long afterward. The author pulls at your deepest emotions, and makes his characters come alive. The result is a book that exercises both heart and mind. This is the first book by this author that I have read, and it has spurred me on to explore other titles by him. Wonderfully thought provoking. The narration is superb as well. - Reviewer from Pennsylvania

Do Not Miss The Opportunity To Enjoy This Great Work
(Review of George Guidall narrating Don Quixote)
A clasic work brought back to life by Edith Grossman in her new translation of one of the greatist books written. George Guidall is simply outstanding in his narration and captivates the listener. Do not pass by the opportunity to enjoy this wonderfull recording of Don Quoixote. - Reviewer from Maine USA
You will be transported.
(Review of George Guidall narrating Second Glance)
"Intricate tapestry" is the perfect description for this book. It has everything I want in a book--wonderful characters, mystery, love, good guys and bad guys, and a bit of mysticism all wrapped up in a careful researched and fascinating (and also a bit shocking) history lesson. And George Guidall, as always, gives a superb performance. As much as I wanted to figure out what the heck was going on, I never wanted this book to end. - Reviewer from Dunkirk, Maryland
A beautiful painting in words
(Review of George Guidall narrating Snow Falling on Cedars)
This book is a masterpiece, each sentence a lovely brushstroke contributing to mood, setting, and character. The research is masterful, establishing the reader firmly in another place and time. The writing is so beautiful that I would have loved it even if the story hadnt been so well done, but the story is also compelling. I especially enjoyed the character development of Ishmael Chambers, the protagonist.
The reader does a fine job of capturing the tone of the book and the beauty of the words.
This was my second read of the book, and I enjoyed it even more this time around. - Reviewer from Central Indiana
Wharton Creates a Vivid World
(Review of George Guidall narrating Ethan Frome)
I so link Edith Wharton with the Victorian world of privilege that the subject of this, one of her most acclaimed work, was not as much to my personal liking, but one cant deny the force of her characterizations and the vivid imagery of her desciptions. - Reviewer from Southern California
Tony Hillermans the Blessing Way
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Blessing Way)
I have just finished Tony Hillermans, "The Blessing Way". The book was a masterfully written mystery that conveyed the respect and admiration the author must have for the Navajo people. The story was beautifully crafted and engrossing. I loved it. George Guidall is one of the best narrators I have ever listened to. I was literally lost in his narration from the opening sentence of the book. The decision to him his narrate this series was brilliant. - Reviewer from Tennessee
Doesnt get much better than this!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Silent Treatment)
Michael Palmers "Silent Treatment" is one of those books that you just cant put down or in our case "turn-off".For mystery readers, its the kind of writing we just cant get enough of.Itsgot believable characters; good guys we care about, bad guys you hope will get what they deserve, and enough tense situations to fulfill anyones thirst for suspense.I can only compare it to a roller coaster ride;take a ride to the top, then youre dropped through hair-raising twists and turns until you reach the bottom, only to discover its building up to start all over again. And of course George Guidall is the absolute best narrator. He tells the story in a way that only he can.He gives each character a unique voice and personality. How does he do that? I found myself driving home from work a bit slower just to reach the end of a chapter. Sometimes pulling in my driveway just to sit in my truck captivated, then finally finding a place to stop the story before resuming it again the next morning on my way to work.Yes,in my opinion, it doesnt get much better than this. - Reviewer from Portland , Oregon
If you like roller coasters, get this one!

A great new find
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Bookman’s Promise)
After reading a review of this book, I decided to give it a try as the subject of rare books has always interested me. Am I ever glad I did. It was a real pleasure to read. I was entertained with a great mystery and through the magic of the pen, the author took me back to history of pre-civil war times. The narrator was terrific and I am looking forward to listening to all six of the series by this author. - Reviewer from Colorado Springs, Co.
The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern

Tragic glimpse into the lives of those who are "always on the stage"
(Review of George Guidall narrating Niagara Falls All Over Again)
I found it hard to stop listening to this story. At times feeling like I could have been listening to an autobiography of a famous nonfiction person. Other times like I was reading a case study into abnormal behavior. All in all, quite the engulfing story of two lives running head on, like a train wreck. I did find the language offensive at times and would have preferred that not part of the story. In my opinion the story could have been told without it. George Guidall, as always, does an excellent job with the narration. - Reviewer from West Virginia

George Guidall does it again
(Review of George Guidall narrating China Run)
I’ll admit I ordered this book mainly because it was narrated by George Guidall. His narration adds to any book. Soon I found that the characters and plot made it difficult to turn off the walkman for the evening. The setting of modern China added to my fascination with the unfolding story. Complex, interesting characters and motivations add to the fast paced actions. - Reviewer from Southeast USA
The Best Cat Who Book So Far
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Cat Who Knew Shakespeare)
Koko and Yum Yum are delightful felines. Im listening to all the "Cat Who" books in order, and this one (number 7) is the best so far. The story is very suspenseful, the characters engaging, and and the cats captivating. Koko tries to get messages to Qwill by knocking appropriate books off the shelf, but Qwill is frustratingly slow to get the messages. Fortunately, Koko knows how to take matters into his own paws when all else fails. - Reviewer from Florida
(Review of George Guidall narrating Bookman’s Wake)

(Review of George Guidall narrating Victory)
Perhaps I have lead a sheltered life , but I found this to be an extremely well-written , yet somehow , at the same time , the most singularly depressing novel I have encountered in my sixty-four years , here on planet earth ...... Definitely not recommended for anyone posted on a "suicide watch." George Guidall does his usual very good job of narration ...... - Reviewer from Northern Virginia
A must read!
(Review of George Guidall narrating I Know This Much is True)
What a truly outstanding book. Dominick Birdsey and his family will make you laugh and cry and you will feel like you really know them all by the end of the book. You wont be able to put it down once you get started you will want to know whats coming next. Weaving the history of his grandfather into the story makes it all come to a very surprising ending.

FANTASTIC!!!!!! BRAVO!!!!!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Double Tap)
Double Tap is Doubley Fantastic!! I enjoyed this book (audiobook) so much that I found myself sitting in my car in my garage after arriving home because the story line was so gripping. Excellent story telling weaves you into the plot line and never lets you go! The narrators ability to give each character and moment its own unique voice, keeping you captivated every step of the way!!
BRAVO!!!! - Reviewer from Maryland
Excellent not to be missed!!!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Practice of Deceit)
I seldon rate a book 5 stars, but this one deserves at least that many. The plot builds slowly. The book is not fast paced, but a true page turner none the less. Richard Poe reads the CD addition while George Guidall does the cassette version. I listened to the CD, Richard Poe, who is excellent. I am sure George Guidall is just as good. Do not miss this book! - Reviewer from Manchester, MI
Top of the Line Medieval Fiction
(Review of George Guidall narrating Baudolino)
Having studied using Ecos book on medieval aesthetics for my degree in medieval history, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that he wrote medieval fiction. Ive watched The Name of the Rose (with Connery), read Foucalts Pendulum, and listened to Baudolino twice (from the library), I guess that qualifies me as an Eco fan. I rank him up there with Thomas Costain in his ability to bring the medieval world to life without the anachronistic judgments or interpolations that most popular representations bring to bear (The Kingdom of Heaven being a recent example). I love this book so much and have wanted it on CD for some time but couldnt find it. Im glad to have found it and am purchasing it without a second thought. Ecos portrayal of the medieval mind is both accurate and enjoyable in this pseudo-autobiography of Baudolino. - Reviewer from Princeton, NJ, USA

What A Range of Emotions !!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Dark Tower)
Born in the early forties , I consider myself neither a "macho man" , nor a "sensitive nineties guy" whos gotten in touch with his feminine side,(whatever that means) , but this INCREDIBLE 7-book series had me alternately laughing my butt off , wiping tears from my eyes , and experiencing nearly every possible human emotion in between ...... As a reader of more than 700 recorded books , few titles , if any , have had me so personally enthralled ..... If you can read this series without feeling any serious emotions , dont waste your time getting an EKG , just call Mulligan the Undertaker and have a relative or friend drop you off at the family plot , for interment ..... - Reviewer from Northern Va.
Deaver Wins Again
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Cold Moon)
Another incredible Lincoln Rhyme novel with twists and turns only Deaver can navigate. Mr. Deaver once again delivers with a plot that keeps you guessing from beginning to end. - Reviewer from Memphis TN
Read and had to buy
(Review of George Guidall narrating Rise to Rebellion)
There are few books I listen to that I have to buy, this is one of them. There is so much history and information in this book. I know it is not a history book, but a book of historical facts that Mr Shaara has collected and made exciting to listen to.
George as always brings the words to life.
There is so much here, that you can feel the birth pains of the nation with every CD. - Reviewer from Georgia, USA
Compelling to the very end
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Sign of the Book)
This was my first "read" of the Cliff Janeway series, and I definitely am going back for more. Well paced, with lots of twists, this was a riveting story with well developed characters. The best part is that nobody is perfect...each person has some flaws, making it all the more credible. - Reviewer from City of Brotherly Love

Amazing book, Well Read!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Crime and Punishment)
Not that I always have warm fuzzies about CP, but this story leaves me dumbstruck. I find Dostoevsky’s heavy descriptions to be captivating, not boring. Guidall’s reading is fantastic. Go for it! I am presently halfway into the unabridged version. I am hooked.

Not as good as book one
(Review of George Guidall narrating A Forest of Stars)
Hidden Empire seemed to be a good start to this series. I wish that Anderson would have used less characters and developed them more. He has some really great ideas, but I found that I just did not care that much about each of the characters and started to wish the book would hurry up and get over. The third book in this series is even worse. - Reviewer from Springfield, Mo.
Combine a great narrator and a great book for the best in entertainment
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Alienist)
This is probably one of the best books I’ve ever come across. It combines fact and fiction in a compelling and can’t be stopped mystery well laced with amazing research. I particularly enjoyed Carr’s use of appropriate dialogue and vernacular to bring his well developed characters to life. - Reviewer from Albany, OR
Breathtaking
(Review of George Guidall narrating Nathan’s Run)
When friends ask me to recommend a book this is the first one on my list. The story was nonstop excitement with lots of twists and turns along the way. This is a must for every suspense fan. And what can I say about George Guidell, he could make the yellow pages come to life with his powerful voice. A great a performer, the best in the business. - Reviewer from Pittsburgh, PA
A wonderful book to listen to
(Review of George Guidall narrating A Land Remembered)
I really enjoy historical fiction, but to me, these characters are very real. The background in the story about the land, nature and evolution of the population of Florida is fascinating. This is one book (CD) I am going to keep for my husband to listen to before sending it back. It is the type that should appeal to different kinds of listeners, even those who dont normally listen to or read fiction. It’s truly one of the best I’ve listened to.

Emotionally amazing, truly gifted writer!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Pact)
I have just finished listening to The Pact, A Love Story and I am almost speechless. Numerous times during the telling of the story I had to stop and regain control of my emotions. Jodi Picoult is an amazing writer. The layers and layers of emotions contained in this story are astounding. A serious read, not to be embarked upon without giving of your heart to the characters. Truly a story that will touch your heart long, long after the final sentence. - Reviewer from WV
Fast Paced, quick read
(Review of George Guidall narrating Neanderthal)
I found Neanderthal to be fast paced and engaging. If youre into excitement, mainly want to be entertained and/or distracted, and dont really care if the whole premise is ridiculously unrealistic, then this book is for you. There are minor issues like the fact that our satalites would likely have noticed an undiscovered temperate "garden of eden" like valley, large enough to supply 100 of the needs of not 1, but 2, communities of Neanderthals, heated by geothermal energy located somewhere in the high mountains of western Asia. But, if you can gloss over issues like that in order to be entertained by an otherwise lively, active plot, then youll enjoy this book. If you enjoy Clive Cusslers Dirk Pitt novels, youll probably like this novel, too. The narrator was great in portrayng both the male and female characters, and made it a quick, "easy listen" where I could just sit back in the airplane seat and be entertained without having to work at it. - Reviewer from Palm Coast, Florida
It dosent get much better than this!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Found Money)
James Grippando writes a story that grabs you immediatley and keeps you spellbound. The characters are as familiar as old friends and the suspense builds and builds. I ate my lunch in my car at work so I could listen to this story unfold. And George Guildall is my favorite narrator, his smooth voice and characterizations are perfect. - Reviewer from Pittsburgh, PA
Incredible, just incredible!!!!!
(Review of George Guidall narrating Crime and Punishment)
Do you want to hear a totally engrossing story? One that thoroughly captures the human situation? The pathos evoked by the book and the wide character range afforded by narrator George Guidall places this (book) and recorded book at the top of the list of books to read (hear)! Ive listened to this book on tape at least 7 times on my 2 hour round trip commute to work. Dostoyevsky writes so that he captures every single nuance and absolutely all of the irony of this thing we call life. The characters and settings are rich in detail and like others have said may seem to at first slow the book down. Thats only because The author is a master craftsman and is in total control of his story. You will only begin *with emphasis* to understand the storys far reaching implications and the weight of its message when you are finished. An absolutely remarkable feat of storytelling, that will haunt you. - Reviewer from Houston, Texas, USA
Great adventure/suspense story
(Review of George Guidall narrating Eaters of the Dead (The 13th Warrior))
I read "Beowulf" and all I could remember was agonizing hours in High School English class. . . .Well, if it had been like Michael Crighton’s version, I would likely have decided to get my University degree in English Lit, instead! This is a fast paced, suspenseful, fascinating, at times humorous, science fiction - like tale. It goes down easily (unlike High school Beowulf), and I still remember it, now 6 months later! Full of adventure, sex, deceit, violence, strategy, conniving, politics, inter-cultural conflicts, and ...heck, when your kids are forced to read Beowulf, you’ll have a clue what it was really about and be able to help them! High entertainment and a bit of education, both at the same time, effortlessly! What more can a listener ask for?

Amazing
(Review of George Guidall narrating Amazonia)
James Rollins has written a book that actually lives up to all its hype. The emotions and action never stop. From beginning to end you are involved with the characters. The villan leaves your blood running cold and you cant wait to see how he’ll/she’ll get his/her comeuppance. I drive several hours a day and I didnt want to get home on some days just waiting to see what happens. Youll love it.

Gettysburg Tragedy
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Killer Angels)
Rarely do I reread high impact books, but this is an exception. Today, I finishes The Killer Angels and decided this is an audio book I must purchase. The text version doesn’t have the same impact as the Guidall narrative. And this is strong praise from a library junkie.
George Guidalls narration of Michael Shaaras prize winning story, recreates not only the historical atmosphere of the Battle of Gettysburg, but also breathes life into and captures the emotions of the officers on both sides. Although I had read the book before, the narration of final battle evoked my strong emotional response. Listening to Guidall’s overwhelming performance, I actually sobbed at the depiction of courage and tragedy played out by the central characters in the battle climax. I think of it now as I write this review. It is my hope that Michael Shaara, too, believed that this production of his Pulitzer Prize winning book reflected all that moved him to write such beautiful words about such a tragic three days in Pennsylvania. I’ve never written a review like this before but hope it inspires someone to listen to this story. - Reviewer from Philadelphia PA
Evocative Writing
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Wailing Wind)
This was a very pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed the wonderfully-wrought descriptions of the area and the people. Mr. Hillerman’s understated portrayal of relationships was wonderfully crafted. I will definitely look for more of the Joe Leaphorn novels. Mr. Guidall is one of my favorite narrators, thanks to his gentle interpretation of characters "voices". It’s like listening to a cherished uncle or youthful grandfather telling stories around a campfire. .

Fantastic!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Unquiet)
This is the best book I have listened to! I can’t give it high enough praise. I didn’t want to leave my car, and thought of the possible outcomes whenever I wasn’t listening! I can’t wait for more of Connolly’s books.

The Best of A Wonderful Series
(Review of George Guidall narrating The Cat Who Turned On and Off)
I have purchased every audiobook in the "Cat Who..." series by Lilian jackson Braun, and this is the best of the best. The story is interesting and the narration is brilliant. Whenever I need a break from the stress of too much work, a few minutes with George Guidell and Lillian Jackson Braun put everything right with the world. - Reviewer from Atlanta
Never a Dull Moment in This One
(Review of George Guidall narrating ACID TEST)
Be ready for a wild ride! Gives you something to think about when it comes to world leaders and politics. Look forward to listening to his next book. George, as usual, does an excellent job of narrating. - Reviewer from North Carolina, USA
As Good as it Gets!
(Review of George Guidall narrating The List)
I just listened to The List for the second time. Steve Martini has given us a perfect plot, great characters, thrilling action and sometimes laugh out loud dialoge. When I recommend a great book to my friends this is at the top of my "List". - Reviewer from Pittsburgh, PA
Incredible Narration! Sweeping Science Fiction
(Review of George Guidall narrating A Forest of Stars)
Ive listened to many audio books and I believe that George Guidall may be the best narrator of them all. George breathes life into every character. He must do research before embarking on a reading because the character assignments are chosen incredibly well, and he must have researched and read the work. The characters he voices range from robots to females, to salty characters, elderly women, alien lifeforms, and the list goes on. The background narration is also incredibly enjoyable treat.
It is truly an experience to hear a book narrated by this fellow.
I thoroughly enjoyed Saga of Seven Suns. George, please please please narrate the remaining 4 books of this series. - Reviewer from Seattle

Has the Basic Rules of a Successful Story
(Review of George Guidall narrating Act of Treason)
All the books I read and the movies I watch always have three ingredients to be successful:
1. There must be good guys and bad guys.
2. The good guys must win.
3. There must be a happy ending.
This book had all three to the extreme. - Reviewer from Annapolis, MD
A MUST FOR ANYONE WHO HAS AN INTEREST AND WISHES TO LEARN ABOUT WORLD WAR II.
(Review of George Guidall narrating An Army at Dawn)
The subject matter, the North African invasion, is presented with candor and in detail. Some of your thoughts and beliefs about war, how it is waged, and the commanders of armies will be challenged to say the least. Guidall as narrator--the very best as usual. - Reviewer from
Very Imaginative
(Review of George Guidall narrating On a Pale Horse)
This book starts out kind of slowly, but hang in there just a short while. Youll be rewarded with plenty of surprises to keep you hooked, and some very imaginative ideas to stretch your mind. Its a story about an average, "go nowhere" type of guy doomed to underachieve, even though hes probably a decent sort of fellow. But, he surprises even himself when he finally finds his right place in the world, hits his stride, and succeeds beyond his wildest imaginations. We get to watch him befuddled by his new job, stumble as he hits his stride and then tries to get used to his new world. Great narration keeps you feeling like youre right there, a part of the action. Its a funny, imaginative, engaging book with plenty of suspense written by an obviously very creative mind. I ordered all the rest of the books in the series, and my husband has become a fan, also. - Reviewer from Palm Coast, Florida, USA
"What If?" Indeed
(Review of George Guidall narrating How Few Remain)
An audiobook that runs to 18 tapes can be daunting, but this one really rolls along. Turtledove turns the entire Civil War and its aftermath on its ear by altering one little-known event. From that pivot point, this alternate history plays out in logical and fascinating fashion. Looking at the major undercurrents of the time through a decidedly different lens was refreshing and enlightening. And George Guidells accomplished narration and ability to create distinct characters adds greatly to the experience. - Reviewer from Washington DC
I loved it.
(Review of George Guidall narrating China Run)
Excellent writer....excellent reader. Hard to turn it off. Also, makes you want to go get a baby!!! - Reviewer from Nevada
