Their blissful reunion is shattered when she touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone ruins and is instantly transported to a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans … in 1743. Will Claire find her way back to her own time, or is her destiny forever linked with Clan MacKenzie and the gallant James Fraser? Davina Porter’s lyrical narration will launch listeners into an exhilarating world of heroism, pulse-pounding adventure, and breathtaking romance as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love.

(Review of Outlander)
A friend recommended this book to me. I shall definitely seek out her recommendations in the future! This book was fabulous and the narrator’s wonderful Scottish burr gave life to the characters. The plot is full of twists that keep one glued to the action. Normally, I listen to tapes while driving. This book was so riveting that it migrated from the car into the house. My husband also enjoyed it and it prompted both of us to look into this period of Scottish history more closely. I eagerly look forward to listening to the sequels to Outlander.
I have both print and audio (abridged versions). I loved them both. My Mom has enjoyed audio books for years as she is blind. I had wondered when they would do these for the blind. When I found out that you have the full books, I know that my prayers have been answered. Now I can enjoy these books without having to sacrifice time while I work. The whole Outlandish Series as it is known is outstanding. I have read Outlander 5 times and it is new each time. I don’t do that with other books. - Reviewer from Clifton, Arizona
I believe that the Outlander series have to be my all time favorite series, but when I listened to them from Recorded Books, they became even better. Davina Porter makes them come alive! - Reviewer from
Compelling, vivid and completely absorbing...
(Review of Outlander)
Although having read each one of the four books in this series within the past several weeks the old fashioned way, I was delighted to discover their release in an unabridged audio format. Upon the completion of this audio book, I was completely exhausted! How did I miss so much?
The nuances and details so vividly constructed by the author were greatly enhanced by the reader and I was completely swept away by the characters AGAIN!
No one should miss this wonderful tale of profound love, the overwhelming tragedy of the period and the complex fantasy that is interwoven throughout the series. Dragonfly In Amber is already on order on audio! - Reviewer from Woodinville, WA, USA
I would recommend the entire series to anyone who enjoys a fanciful, romantic, gripping, funny, touching, sexy(OH YEAH!!!)thouroughly enjoyable story...and one that in no small part is made MUCH better by the choice of reader!
Davina Porter brings the characters TO LIFE!! - Reviewer from
LISTEN TO THIS! Outlander will delight you from start to finish.
(Review of Outlander)
I’m delighted to spread the word about the world of Diana Gabaldon’s Claire and James Frasier. What an extraordinary story set in extraordinary times. This book is buried in the Romance section at our local book stores, which is a pity. It better belongs in the historical fiction section. But what a romance! And what action! Bravo Dr. Gabaldon! This book appeals to both men and women if my family is any example.
I wish to express my deepest regards here for Davina Porter. There is no Scottish brouge beyond her ken. She brings to life the population of the rough Scottish villages and prim English sitting rooms with delightful clarity. Her interpretation of Diana Gabaldon’s prose is unparalleled. I discovered these books after all were released as audiobooks and for months spent every free moment with Claire and Jamie. In fact, I’ve stopped reading the last book, realizing that I enjoyed the audio performance so much more with Davina whispering it in my ear. This is one series that hasn’t declined in quality as the later books are published--perhaps because the author has selected such a rich period in history to anchor the story.
My parting comment: Listen to the unabridged versions, there’s simply too many details omitted in the editting process to do justice to the series. The steamy, sensuous love scenes suffer as well. - Reviewer from Tucson, Arizona
This series grabs you and never lets go!
(Review of Outlander)
Although the very beginning of Outlander is a little slow, once Claire passes through the stones I was hooked. I ate, worked and almost didnt sleep until I had listened to the whole book and couldnt get the next ones quickly enough. Never has listening to or reading a series been so compelling, no compulsive! as this one has. I keep very few books, but have copies of all of these and will read/listen to them again.
Diana Gabaldon transports the reader to her settings and makes one get involved with the characters. Prepare to fall in love with Jamie, girls. Davina Porter brings the characters to life and after listening to the books, when I read one, I "hear" it in my mind in her accents! Thank you to both author and narrator for a rare treat. - Reviewer from Orlando, FL
A totally engrossing tale brought to life
(Review of Outlander)
As my introduction to the Outlander series has been through Davina Porters inspired performance, I cant honestly judge whether or not I would have enjoyed the tales quite so much without her interpretation. While the stories are wonderful and absolutely engrossing, Im not sure I would have totally fallen in love with the characters without the narrators brilliant talent. She brings the characters to life with an immediacy that is impossible to resist. I have fallen under the spell of the combination of great writing and extroardinary performance. I can only thank you, Davina and Diana, for many hours of incredible entertainment and a much appreciated escape from reality. - Reviewer from Maine
I was a bit intimidated by the length of this audio book, however, I cant remember a single moment when I wasnt held spellbound by the book or the narrator. The story is fascinating and I am looking forward to the next chapter in the series. If you like time travel/historical fiction with a little romance tucked in, you will enjoy this book. - Reviewer from New Orleans
the entire outlander series is absolutely outstanding. it boggles my mind how someone can write fiction that makes you wish you were there. i could tell from the beginning that jamie and claire were two characters that were easy to fall in love with. in my line of work, i listen to a lot of audio books and this one really takes the cake. you cant wait to find out what happens in the next book yet at the same time you dont want this one to end! this book is truely a must have! - Reviewer from
To be honest when I received the box with the cds in them I was a little reluctant. There are 28 discs to this book and I thought it may be a little drawn out...however I was completely mistaken. This book has great energy and momentum. It is not redundant like many long novels. I found the author very knowledgeable about Scottish traditions and heritage. The narrator was magnificant! Truly. She really made this whole book come to life. You will love the thrill of this book. Dont let it intimidate you as it almost did me. This book was OUTSTANDING! - Reviewer from Maryland, USA
Youll wait at the mailbox for the next book in the series
(Review of Outlander)
There are very few books that appeal equally to myself, my 51 year old husband, and my 14 year old neice. However, all three of us found ourselves staying awake most of the night listening to this book despite work (or school) the next morning. The narration of Ms. Porter really brings the characters and situation to life in a way I never would have gotten from reading a printed version of the book. We each became so engrossed in the fascinating adventures of the characters in this book that it became difficult to pull ourselves away from the book so we could participate in our own real live lives. We’ve ordered each book in the series, and now the only problem is that we argue over who gets to listen to the new books first when they arrive. - Reviewer from Palm Coast, Florida
Absolutely the best audio book ever!
(Review of Outlander)
I have been listening to audio books for nearly a decade now to easy my 2 hour each way New York commute. This is the absolute best audio book I have every come across. I was so taken that I listened to it twice before moving on to the second in the series.
I can not recommend this highly enought! Dont miss out! - Reviewer from Bethpage, New York
I came upon this series by luck. I travel alot for my work and enjoy listening to books on tape (or CD). This book was great I stayed riveted to the story-line. I found myself sitting in the car, after arriving at my destination, just to continue listening. Davina Porter truly brings the characters alive. Do not be frightened by the size (later books in the series have up to 47 discs) as it always seems that you want more. - Reviewer from USA
I came across this series accidentaly and was a bit hesitant about it due to the time travel angel. I am so glad I didn’t let that stop me! This is without a doubt the most fantastic series I have ever listened to. I own 3 of the 6 unabridged audio books and am working towards owning all 6 as the library always seems to have the next book I need out on loan which makes me crazy! Davina Porter brings the story to life in a way that words cannot describe! I can see all the characters in my mind’s eye clear as day! Dont make the mistake I did of trying the abridged set. Once you’ve listened to the unabridged version read by Davina Porter the abridged version read by Geraldine James is a horrible disappointment! I would strongly recommend the entire unabridged series! I hope there will be a 7th book one day! This story should NEVER end!

Captivating, gut wrenching and simply wonderful
(Review of Outlander)
Diana Gabaldon with her mesmerizing writing style soon sweeps you into the lives of the time traveling Claire Randall and her Scottish highlander, James Fraser, whom she comes across after traveling 200 yrs back to Scotland and into the struggle of the Highlanders quest for independence. After a chapter or two I became addicted to the prose, echantingly provided by the narrator, Davina Porter. I became wrapped up into the lives of Clare and Jamie and the history of Scotland. I am such a fan of the audiobook series, I have purchased each of the additional tomes of the series as well as OUTLANDER. This is a must read, you won’t be disappointed! - Reviewer from Fresno, CA
