Description

Burt Dow loves his old boat, the Tidely-Idley. She's painted with pink and green and tan leftover paint, and she leaks, but she's still a good fishing boat. One day old Burt was trying to hook a cod, but he caught something much bigger. He caught a whale. Worried that all the whale's blubber would leak out through the fish hook's hole in its tail, Burt put a band-aid on it. Then a terrible storm came up, and his boat began to creak. It looked like the Tidely-Idely was headed for the bottom of the sea, unless Burt could catch a ride in the whale's tummy. So that's just what he did. But would the whale let him out when the wind calmed down? John McDonough's lively narration of Burt's unusual adventure will delight any young listener. Robert McCloskey's colorful use of language and made-up action words add a special charm to this tall tale, especially when it's read aloud.
