"Jamie (Punkzilla), a 14-year-old runaway from military school, has hit the road. He was sent there because his ADHD was a problem for his parents. Now he's headed to Memphis to visit his gay brother, who is dying of cancer. Matthew Stadelmann uses a simple, clear narration style that enhances the author's impeccable timing and strong character definition. His use of vocal variation is minimal, but listeners strongly feel Jamie's complex emotions as he encounters aspects of the adult world on his own. This is primarily a first-person narrative, and Jamie is on the move, so the secondary characters have small parts. Nonetheless, Stadelmann perfectly calibrates each of them to their fleeting roles in Jamie's life. M.C. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine"
