Jane Feather, New York Times best-selling author, takes listeners back in time to King Henry VIII's court in The Widow's Kiss. With over four million copies of her novels in print, she is an accomplished author of historical romances. Lady Guinevere Mallory has been married four times in 12 years, and each of her husbands has died mysteriously. Adept in the laws of property, she has secured the land of each of her late spouses, vastly increasing her personal wealth. After the death of her fourth husband, this trend raises some eyebrows at the royal court, and Hugh of Beaucaire is sent to investigate these puzzling events. When they meet, passion envelops them both, but he is forced to wonder, will he be the next victim of this bewitching beauty? Jane Feather has also written The Least Likely Bride. Jenny Sterlin's seductive narration will have listeners ensnared in this tantalizing web of passion and deception.

Professional reviews

"A complicated romance takes place in England during the rule of Henry VIII, when Thomas Cromwell was "Privy Seal." This makes a delicate and terrifying political background for the complex story of the lovely Guinevere Mallory, whose four husbands have died mysteriously (in 12 years) and left her all their properties. So the king and Cromwell have their eyes on this anomaly and send out Hugh of Beaucaire to bring her to justice either as a murderer or a witch. Jenny Sterlin has a fine time with timbre, moving from the high pitch of 8-year-old Pippa to the deeper pitches of Lord Hugh and the king. Though not filled with a virtuosity of accents, this tale makes for good fun. B.H.B. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine"
