School Library Journal hailed Michael J. Daley's Space Station Rat as a ''thoughtful and satisfying adventure.'' Here Daley delights young listeners with his first early reader chapter book. Pinch really wants soup for lunch, but he's too lazy to make it himself. So he decides to pay a visit to his friend Dash. Together, Pinch and Dash attempt to make a cheesy spinach and potato soup. But will their effort be for nothing when they begin to disagree on the amount of pepper and hot sauce the soup needs?

"Chop. Dice. Mince. It's time to make soup! Pinch is too lazy to make his own, but his buddy Dash is a cook. Luckily, Pinch has all the ingredients, plus a few more, to transform Dash's "skinny" soup. Children will enjoy what spinach, potato, cheese, hot sauce, and pepper can do for the soup pot and for the friendship. Greg Steinbruner's narration provides just what young listeners need. His pacing is steady, and his voice distinct and firm. He adds just enough punch to underscore the author's alliteration and repetitive sentence structure. In character, Steinbruner highlights Pinch's gusto as Dash samples his soup. A.R. (c) AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine"
