A Sunday Times best-selling author and winner of the Cartier Diamond Dagger Award, John Harvey is hailed as a master of the contemporary crime novel. In Good Bait, DCI Karen Shields is assigned to the case of a dead teenaged Moldovan boy found in Hampstead Heath. Her investigation leads her to a complex web of gang violence and organized crime. Most disturbingly, however, the chain of corruption permeates all sectors of London society. "No one in Britain is writing better crime fiction."-Times (London)

Professional reviews

"Harvey's murder mystery is set in London, Cornwall, and other points across the south of England and features a female cop. The story is fast, poignant, and complex. Adjoa Andoh's excellent pacing delivers perfect clarity to the emotional highs and lows experienced by a significant range of characters. She deftly employs a wide set of British accents from Scotland, Wales, and London's East End. Her gritty cops work well beside immigrant teens and supercilious bosses. She does the sneering teen girl lead particularly well. Since there are racial undertones in this story, a better vocal depiction of characters' races would have been helpful, but this is still a great listen for fans of British police drama. M.C.
