American fishing has become tragically disconnected from the American fish eater, and author Paul Greenberg focuses on the New York oyster, Gulf Coast shrimp, and AlaskaÕs wild salmon to make his case. Why do we export the incredibly nutritious Alaskan sockeye and eat much less healthy farmed salmon from Asia instead? Lane successfully incorporates GreenbergÕs careful optimism that we are learning the importance of maintaining salt marshes, looking for local marketing options, and questioning the ÒjobsÓ argument for an enormous copper mine that would destroy the salmon runs.
