In 1961, young Harvard graduate Michael C. Rockefeller, son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, disappeared during an expedition to New Guinea. Last seen swimming to shore after his canoe capsized, his body was never found. Half a century later, avid traveler and writer Carl Hoffman-- armed with the theory that the Asmats, the local native tribe where Rockefeller was visiting, killed and ceremoniously ate the young man-- set off to discover what really happened. Retracing Rockefeller's steps, Hoffman travels to New Guinea, immersing himself in the world of former headhunters and cannibals to finally find the truth.
