Perloo, one of those mouse-like creatures known as Montmers, is an historian and something of a homebody. His happiest moments are those he spends reading by the cozy fire in his little den. When the dying queen unexpectedly names him her successor, his comfortable routine comes to an abrupt end. He is not at all prepared to have greatness thrust upon him. Now, suddenly, he must unify a divided kingdom and defeat the queen's conniving, vengeful son. How can he possibly hope to protect his people from an evil, ferocious usurper when he doesn't even know how to fight? Young fantasy lovers will be intrigued with the likeable, guileless little hero as they follow along on his exciting and perilous adventure. John McDonough's narration adds authenticity to a heart-warming lesson about integrity versus greed.
