"Dick Hill does his level best to adapt his laid-back style to this story of a defunct submarine's final voyage. It's hard to go wrong with Hill as a reader. He's got one of those buttery voices that always makes listening a pleasure. The old warhorse sub, THE MEMPHIS, is forced into service a final time to sneak into Russian waters to measure the extent of radioactive contamination left behind by the military. It's a bit painful to hear how the hero, Jerry Mitchell, is forced to endure incredible amounts of abuse just to do his job. Fortunately, he weathers it all, and things turn out well. M.S.
