Description

A thriller that takes us inside a hair-raising heist, where paranoia hangs as heavy as tropical heat. Ex-CIA agent Carr is the reluctant leader of an elite crew planning a robbery of such extraordinary proportions that it will leave them set for life. Diamonds, money laundering, and extortion go into a timed-to-the-minute scheme that unfurls across South America, Miami, and Grand Cayman Island. Carr's cohorts are seasoned pros, but they're wound drum-tight-months before, the man who brought them together was killed in what Carr suspects was a setup. And there are other loose ends: some of the intel they're paying for is badly inaccurate, and one of the gang may have an agenda of her own. But Carr's biggest problems are yet to come, because few on his crew are what they seem to be, and even his own past is a lie.

Professional reviews

"Ex-CIA operative Carr is too nice a guy to be a villain, but he's cast as one in THICK AS THIEVES. In William Dufris's narration, you can hear what a nice guy Carr is, which makes you wonder what he's doing running with a pack of unlikable losers who are out to bilk a billionaire. Dufris makes Carr both believable and likable. Dufris also helps move the plodding plot along with his portrayal of Carr's inner torment and the lack of compassion of the other characters. The ending is a shocker and makes listening to the slow parts worthwhile. M.S. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine"
