They came from the sky, parachuting out of military helicopters to invade Tucker Pierce's idyllic hometown on Pemberwick Island, Maine. They call themselves SYLO and they are a secret branch of the U.S. Navy. SYLO's commander, Captain Granger, informs residents that the island has been hit by a lethal virus and must be quarantined. Now Pemberwick is cut off from the outside world. Tucker was on the sidelines when the high school running back dropped dead with no warning. He saw the bizarre midnight explosion over the ocean, and the mysterious singing. He tasted the Ruby - and experienced the powers it gave him - for himself. What all this means, SYLO isn't saying. Only Tucker holds the clues that can solve this deadly mystery.

"Living on peaceful Pemberwick Island, Maine, Tucker Pierce used to worry about football and girls. Now thereÕs a lot more to worry about as government SYLO soldiers quarantine the island and establish martial law, ostensibly to prevent a virus from spreading. Narrator Andrew Bates uses a conversational style to convincingly portray TuckerÕs high school angst. Once the soldiers arrive, BatesÕs narration reflects the bookÕs nonstop action without seeming rushed. As Tucker and his friends struggle to discover the governmentÕs real motives, Bates reveals their confusion and fear with character voices that are unique and believable. Brisk pacing and a confident narration ensure that listeners will race through MacHaleÕs series opener. C.A. © AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine"
