Little Ngiri is the Smallest Warthog in Africa. Tired of being teased by his bigger brothers and sisters, he wishes things could be different. When Old Nyumbu the Wildebeest gives Ngiri a set of magic drums, he is sure his wish is about to come true. But all the animals of the jungle are in for a BIG surprise as Ngiri's wish is granted in a most unexpected way. This audio book includes two recordings: an entertainment version with scored music and one with the narrator's voice only. 'Jungle Drums has a fable-like subtext about self-acceptance and the dangers of trying too hard to fit in.' - Sydney Morning Herald 'joyful, clever and witty . Great to read aloud' - Magpies Magazine

Professional reviews

"The old saying "be careful what you wish for" is an appropriate warning for this tale of Ngiri, the smallest warthog in Africa. Wanting to become something else, he wishes on a set of magic drums and causes all the warthogs to be transformed into more striking creatures while the other jungle animals lose their distinctive markings and features. The author performs two versions of this classic tale. The first reading is accompanied by the beating of drums, the screeching of jungle birds, and the sounds of falling rain. While evocative and energizing, they become distracting and detract from the story. No sound effects are included in the second version; the author presents his work with enthusiasm, enlivening the story with his expressiveness. M.H.N. (c) AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine"
